Mike Conkright from Professional Pest Management appeared on channel 13 in Grand Rapids MI this morning with Rick Vuyst from Fruit Basket FlowerLand. There topic was mole control Mike showed his technique on trapping.

It has been noted on several routine inspections of food service establishments in Kent County that cardboard bait stations are being used by several pest control operators. Act 92 of 2000 Michigan Food Law adopted by reference the FDA 1999 Food Code. Section 7-206.12 of this Food Code states, "Rodent bait shall be contained in a covered, tamper resistant bait station." The food code does not define "tamper resistant bait stations." I contacted Barb Coy, Food Industry Specialist, with the Food Sanitation Section of the Food & Dairy Division of the Michigan Department of Agriculture. Her response was that the MDA refers to the EPA pesticide registration (PR) notice 94-7, September 16, 1994 for the definition when determining approved bait stations. Therefore the cardboard bait station is not acceptable for use in licensed food service establishments in Kent County.

On January 31, 2006 Eradico Services, Inc. of Novi, Michigan took time out to celebrate two milestones in its long and successful history. During a day long meeting employees and business partners alike celebrated seventy five years of business and the retirement of Eradico’s President and Senior Vice President.

In today’s business world it isn’t many companies that can claim to have been around for seventy five years. Eradico is one of them. Eradico had its beginning in 1931 with one office in Detroit. They now have offices throughout the state of Michigan and provide Weed Man Lawn care support services spanning five states. In the last seventy five years Eradico had grown to be recognized as a leader in the pest and lawn care business.

Forrest W. “Bill” Russell, Eradico’s President for over twenty years, attributes much of the company’s growth to following the Golden Rule. Treat your employees, customers and business partners as you want to be treated and the law of reciprocity will prove itself as a sound foundation on which to build your business. When you look at the company’s growth record and number of years in business it looks like Bill is right.

The second milestone celebrated was the retirement of Bill Russell and Glenn Sidder from Eradico. Both men feel good about their career accomplishments and are extremely confident in passing on the reins to their sons Chuck Russell, Steve Russell and David Sidder.

At the MPCA October board meeting Mike Cronkite and Jim Rutherford are elected to board to fill the two vacant seats.

The Board Of Directors for the Michigan Pest Control Association have approved a four thousand dollar donation to the Bug House located on the campus of MSU. One thousand dollars will be paid on a quarterly basis for one year.
